PS Vita
Up until the PS Vita by Sony PlayStation launched, video games were played on consoles, small hand-held devices, smartphones and online. The PS Vita has added an entirely new category as it is a cross between a video game console and a hand-held device, with many online features thrown in.

Here are some of the many features included with the PS Vita that show how revolutionary it is:

1. Cross-Platform Play: You can start playing a game on your PS3 console, leave the house and continue playing, right where you left off, on your PS Vita. On multiplayer games, you can play on your Vita against friends on their PS3.

2. Dual Analog Sticks: PS Vita is the only portable gaming system to have dual analog sticks, just like a console video game controller. In fact the PS Vita, with the exception of the big screen in the middle, looks very much like the PS3 controller. Having the dual analog sticks gives players more precision in shooter and various other types of games.

3. The Games: The PS Vita can support games that are not common on hand-held devices and smartphones. Any type of game available on a console can be played on the PS Vita. There are games for every type of gamer, from kids and families to teens and hard core gamers. Some examples are Uncharted Golden Abyss, Little Deviants, Escape Plan and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

4. Rear Touch Pad: Another tool to use in many games. Almost like another controller, but this one you work by sliding or tapping your fingertaps on the back of your Vita.

5. Touch Screen Device: Sure your smartphones are touch screen, but that is the only way to control them. The PS Vita has more controllers than any other device, a rear touch pad, and a beautiful touch screen, powered by an OLED screen. It looks amazing.

6. Motion Sensor Technology: The PS Vita has Six Axis motion sensor technology which allows you another way to control the game, by touch, tilt or steering. There are almost limitless ways the play on the PS Vita.

7. Movies, Music and Photos: - You can download movies, music and photos from your computers on to your PS Vita very easily through the Content Manager. The Vita also comes with Netflix and Music Unlimited, so if you subscribe, you can watch unlimited movies or TV shows or listen to unlimited music at home or on the go from your PS Vita.

8. Buying Games: You can buy actual game cards for the PS Vita, but you can easily download every game from the PlayStation Network (PSN) Store. Very simple, no waste, no waiting.

9. Connecting with Friends: Once you have a PSN profile, you can make friends. On the PS Vita, there is a "Near" app that you can use to find players in your vicinity and discover what they are playing and share items. There is also a "Party" app which you can use to voice and text chat with friends. (Parents can disallow use of these features with parent controls). The PS Vita also has free Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Flickr and Foursquare apps.

10. Browse the web with HTML 5 support.

I love the PS Vita because it isn't just like taking a gaming console out with you. It is more like taking an interactive entertainment center. I can play movies, music and games on a big beautiful screen, browse the web, look at photos and socialize with friends. And I love the game continuity. When I think of all the times I couldn't get my sons to leave the house because they didn't want to stop playing a video game. With the PS Vita, that never has to happen again.

Full Disclosure: I was given a free one year loan of a PS Vita as part of my position in the PlayStation Family. I was not paid for the review and all thoughts are my own.
