Question: Doesn't your life and the lives of your passengers and everybody else on the road trump the need to be in on constant communication with others? If your answer is no, you have a big problem. Mobile phones are wonderful devices, however they have made too many people addicts. Yes, if you can't drive without using your cell phone, you are an addict and a danger to your self and others.

I have felt this way for years now. That is why I was so happy that Oprah has made this a personal crusade of hers. I am thrilled to be a messenger of her campaign. I know in my gut that distracted driving is terrible, but through Oprah's campaign, I now can share facts. After you read them, please sign the No Phone Zone pledge below.

From the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, "Every time someone takes their focus off the road, even for a second, they put their lives and the lives of others in danger. Distracted driving in irresponsible and its consequences can be devastating."
  • In 2008, nearly 6,000 people dies in crashes involving a distracted or inattentive driver and more than 500,000 were injured.
  • On any given day in 2008, more than 800,000 vehicles were driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone.
  • More and more people are using a variety of hand-held devices while driving - cell phones, iPods, video games, Blackberrys and GPS systems.
  • In particular, cell phone use for talking and texting is now more prevalent on our nations's roads, rail systems and waterways, carrying a dangerous potential for accidents.

Today begins the national No Phone Zone movement. It begins with getting as many people as possible to take the No Phone Zone pledge. You can do so with the Oprah widget above or you can visit the Oprah Winfrey Show Facebook Page or the Causes Facebook Page. You can also Text to Pledge by texting NPZ to 30644, but please don't do this while driving. Please pass the message along and become a champion of this important cause yourself. Please help to save lives.

Sometimes it seems that moms have their own language. There is a shorthand moms use with each other because they know other mothers will understand. Certain popular sayings or idioms might have begun not having anything to do with moms, but have become mom staples. A dictionary needs to be created to help others understand what mothers are talking about.

I knew I had something in common with Kristin van Ogtrop, author of Just Let Me Lie Down: Necessary Terms for the Half-Insane Working Mom, when I read in the introduction to her book, how she still couldn't understand "why boys always say "Nothing" when you ask what they did at school that day and why husbands never turn off the TV?" I guess my family is not so unique. In this book, Kristin introduces us to a new lexicon for the busy mom of today. She inspired my to try my hand at it also, taking popular idioms and converting them into mom talk.

  • "Like Pulling Teeth" - Getting my sons to share anything about their social or personal lives.
  • "Its All Greek to Me" - How my husband feels when he hears me talk about twitter.
  • "Beating a Dead Horse" - Why do I even bother trying to get my family to be neat?
  • "Misery Loves Company" - Why moms need to vent all their problems to each other.
  • "Getting Up On the Wrong Side of the Bed" - What happens every day to teens when they are woken early for school.
  • "Out of the Blue" - A term that teens never use because it has been taken over by the term "Random" as in "that is so random".
  • "Practice What you Preach" - What moms should do, but it is "easier said than done".
  • "Down to the Wire" - This is when my sons would begin any papers or projects for school.
  • "Money Doesn't Grow on Trees" - Needs no explanation. Probably the most popular parent saying ever.

Do you have mom sayings that you can add? For a whole book of interesting definitions of what moms really mean, then check out Just Let Me Lie Down: Necessary Terms for the Half-Insane Working Mom by Kristin van Ogtrop.  She does a much better and more elaborate job than I did here.

Before the days of digital cameras, after I received my photos, I put them all into a photo album and spent time arranging them in a nice display. Since my photography went digital, I haven't known what to do. All my pictures and videos just sat in my computer. That was until I got Nero Multimedia Suite 10 and now I can easily edit both my pictures and videos, make slideshows, burn them onto CD, DVD or Blu-Ray, and back them up.

My favorite thing about Nero Multimedia Suite is how easy it is. Although I am fairly tech savvy, I am not very artsy and have always had trouble in the photography area. Before I go into more details about this fabulous product, check out the slideshow that I made below. See what I did on my first try.

video

This was just a very basic slideshow, Nero Mutimedia allows you to do so much more. Some of the many great features of this product are:
  • Arrange all of your music, photos and videos in one place for each search and playback.
  • Easily arrange and edit photos and videos in the storyboard, and personalize with Movie Themes for easy to make slideshows.
  • Use special effects such as Picture-in-Picture, animate video, audio and overlay effects,
  • Share your photos or videos to social communities directly from Nero.
  • Just drag and drop files to burn you HD DVDs, CDs and Blu-Ray discs.
  • Once click auto backup to multiple files and devices at once.
Nero Multimedia Suite 10 is actually a combination of three different products - Video Editing, Burning and Backup. Each of these are also sold separately, but the combination is a much better deal. I am so excited to play around with it more and make better and more creative slideshows. I made the above without using any of the advanced features available.

If you want to see more, Nero Multimedia Suite 10 has a 15 day trial period that you can download. I'm sure you can all make slideshows to put mine to shame. Please let me know how yours comes out.

Glee is one of the hottest new shows this year. American Idol's audience is fading with Season 9 being one of the least interesting ever. Over the years, the success of American Idol has shown that television viewers like music. Will scripted series that include great music, such as Glee, bring down musical contests such as American Idol?

While the contest and voting factor do add interest to American Idol, the show is only as good as each season's contestants. Glee, on the other hand, has a cast we all love, while adding extra elements like sex, scandals, dancing and celebrity guests that do more than just give advice.

According to Kirthana Ramsetti, managing editor of Predicto Mobile, "Reality TV seems to be taking its toll on America as audiences are shifting back towards entertainment with a little more substance". She adds, "I think viewers want to watch television shows that they can personally identify with, and the celebrity lifestyle idolized by many, is not something that people can relate to. Shows like Glee and another 2010 hit Modern Family bring entertainment back to familiar setting that are highly entertaining while also relevant to our daily lives".

Predicto Mobile provides information on what the country really thinks about current issues. Some recent polls produced about Glee include:
  • Would Glee draw more than 10 million viewers when it returned in April after its long break? 74% correctly predicted yes.
  • Will Madonna announce that she will appear on the second Madonna episode of Glee by August 2010? 82% predict yes.
  • Since Madonna had an episode of Glee devoted to her music, will Michael Jackson get a similar show this season? 64% predict yes.
  • Is American Idol alum Adam Lambert going to appear on Glee this season? 66% predict yes.

What do you think? Do you watch both American Idol and Glee? Which do you prefer? What do you think of this season of American Idol? Would you like to see more scripted musical shows like Glee on television? What is the future of American Idol, especially with Simon Cowell leaving?

I have previously written about how important it is to prepare our children, especially once they become teens, to money management. Since schools don't teach this, we must. I recently tried out a new program called FamZoo and think it is a wonderful way for parents and their children, tweens or teens to work together to learn about saving, spending and giving in a fun environment. Check out the contest below for a free FamZoo membership!

FamZoo is an online program in which you set up a family account and then make individual accounts for each member of the family. For each child, depending on their age, you can give them a Starter Plan, an Allowance Plan or the Teen Budget Plan. You set up rules, such as how to divide the money in each account between spending, saving and charitable giving. The accounts are virtual, no money flows through this website. It is used as a record keeping device that does so much more. It teaches money basics, managing allowances and chores, tracking savings goals and setting spending limits. FamZoo also is a great reminder to parents to remember to pay allowances on time.

The Teen Budget Plan recognizes that your teen might be already buying things like clothing for themselves. You can set up extra budgets for your teens for items like this. The general budget would be for fun things your teens wants to buy, but then you can create a separate budget which you might fund yourself for more useful items like clothes. Funding a budget to give your teen purchasing responsibilities is a lot better for both of you than having him constantly ask you if he can buy this or that.

FamZoo gives everybody a free two month family membership to try out this fun, educational program. After that, the cost is $5.99 a month. You don't give any credit card information until after the two months, if you decide you want to purchase a membership. I highly recommend you take advantage of the two month trial. And, if you enter the contest below, you have a chance to win a free year membership.

The Contest for a free full year membership to FamZoo is very easy to enter:
  1. Write a comment below about why you would like to try FamZoo for one entry
  2. Tweet about the contest and follow @FamZoo on twitter for another entry, and then write a comment below telling me you tweeted and your twitter name.
  3. Become a fan of Connect with your Teens and FamZoo on Facebook for another entry. Comment about this below and give your Facebook name.
  4. All entries must be received by midnight, April 30th, PT. The winner will be chosen on May 1st, 2010 using Random.org.
I hope that you find FamZoo as helpful a tool as I do. It is extremely flexible, so you can customize it to your family's needs. Since kids spend so much time online, you are taking these financial lessons to a place where they like to be. Try out FamZook, a wonderful tool to teach financial money management to your kids of any age, but especially your teens and tweens.

Disclaimer: I am being compensated for hosting this giveaway and I have received a free lifetime membership package. This has no way influenced my review of the product.

One of the most important things we can teach our teens and tweens is the importance of giving. Not having much money at that age to donate, the best way for youth to give is by volunteering in charitable efforts. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards was created 15 years ago to recognize young heroes who have made exceptional impacts on the lives of others through acts of volunteerism.

The program's goals are to applaud young people who already are making a positive difference in their towns and neighborhoods and to inspire others. It is open to all students in middle school and high school, grades 5-12. In addition to The United States, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards programs is also conducted in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Ireland.

This year, two honorees from each state will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for several days of national recognition events. And ten of these students will be named National Honorees on May, receiving an additional $5,000, gold medallions, trophies, and $5,000 grants from The Prudential Foundation for a charitable organization of their choice.

You can be part of the national awards ceremony through a live webcast event on May 3, 2010 at 12:45pm ET direct from Washington, D.C. You can register (for free) to view the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. To learn more about the program, visit the spirit awards website. The website has information for students and parents on how to apply, volunteering tips and project ideas and information for schools on how to implement the program. Watch the webcast and inspire your teens.

Last night I saw The Good Wife cast at The Paley Center NYC. As a member and former volunteer, I attend many television events at the Paley Center, but I have to say that The Good Wife might have been the most fun I ever had there. Considering that The Good Wife is a drama, the cast is extremely funny and a good time was had by all. The moderator was Matt Roush of TV Guide.

First, the audience was treated to a screening of next week's The Good Wife episode, which will air on April 27th. You will not want to miss it. Then Julianna Margulies (Alicia), Josh Charles (Will), Archie Panjabi (Kalinda) and Matt Czuchry (Cary) came out. With the exception on Archie, I had been a fan of every member of the cast from their previous work. ER, Sports Night, Gilmore Girls, Sex and the City and the numerous works of Christine Baranski were some of my favorites. Julianna looked absolutely beautiful. Much prettier than on screen, even though that wouldn't seem possible. Matt Czuchry (I still can't pronounce his last name) was hysterical. I never would have guessed him to be so funny. And Archie has a heavy British accent and was the shyest of the bunch.

Julianna said that when she decided to come back to television she was looking for a cable TV show, because there are less episodes so it would be easier for her as a mother. However when The Good Wife came along she had to take it. She couldn't believe that a network would put such a smart, multi-layered show on the air. The Good Wife originally was art imitating real life, but with new scandals involving politicians arising, it sometimes seems that now life is imitating art.

Julianna also spoke about playing a mother of two teens. She made a very important point, that came up when she spoke about Alicia taking the computer out of her son's room when she found out what he had been doing. Her point is that no matter how good your relationship is and how much you bond with your teens, you still have to be their parent and not their friend.

Josh was asked about the relationship with his character, Will, and Alicia. Will they or won't they? Should Alicia wind up with him or her husband? He feels that what they've done so far feels right. His character wasn't very happy and was tired of the law until Alicia came to his firm and now his passion for the law has be reawakened. Archie was very nervous at first playing the part of Kalinda and never would have thought her character would become so popular. The role was originally explained to her as being like Erin Brockovich. She was wearing the tall boots that Kalinda wears at the Paley Center because she said that when she puts them on, Kalinda takes over. There has been speculation about Kalinda's sexual orientation and Archie said that we will get an idea about it in the season finale.

During all of the above, Matt Czuchry, interrupted whenever appropriate, with hysterically funny comments. Both the audience and cast couldn't stop laughing. However when Matt Roush began asking him questions, he did get a little more serious. They discussed the contest between Cary and Alicia and that it was very hard shooting that episode, which will air in two weeks. And of course, they can't tell us who wins.

At that moment, Christine Baranski arrived (she had been working) and Julianna filled her in on what they were talking about. Without realizing it, Christine let the cat out of the bag as to who wins and loses the contest. Nobody could believe it, especially Christine. Both cast and audience couldn't stop laughing, especially when Christine comically tried to take it back. I will not spoil the episode for you. Then there were all kinds of jokes about spoilers and Josh said "I'm going to tell you all how Lost ends!". What a great time.

When The Good Wife panel ended, as I was leaving, Matt Czuchry was exiting the building. A group of fans were outside and he couldn't have been nicer. He signed autographs and took pictures. I couldn't help asking for a picture with him and I told him what a big Gilmore Girls fan I am. The picture came out a little blurry but meeting him was wonderful and was the entire Paley Center Good Wife experience.

The Last Recruit was such a great episode of Lost because finally everyone is coming together, both on the Island and in the flash sideways. Every Lost regular appeared in this episode except for Richard. All of flash sideways stories are merging together. We also got some answers and a very happy reunion.

Quotes and Notes from "The Last Recruit", episode 12 of The Final Season of Lost:

Flash Sideways:

1. Locke arrived at the hospital at the exact same time as Sun. When Sun saw him she was terrified as said, "Its him! Its him!" Why was she so scared. Did she see visions of him from the Island?

2. James has Kate at the police station. He says to her, "Don't you think its weird that we were on the same flight, we meet in the elevator and then of all the cars in L.A., you run into me." Sounds almost like Casablanca? Although it seems like he is talking about fate, there doesn't seem to be any signs of recognition from either of them. After Kate tells James that he didn't turn her in at the airport because he didn't want anyone to know he went to Australia and then uses that to try to get him to let her go now, James smiles and says "I Like You!" The con man in him is enjoying Kate.

3. Miles pulls James aside to tell him about a shooting at a restaurant (where Sun and Jin were) and they have a picture of Sayid leaving and think he did it.

4. Claire is signing into the building of the adoption agency when Desmond approaches her. They take the elevator together to the 15th floor (the numbers). He tells her that she should use a lawyer and he is owed a favor by one so she can get the service for free. She goes with him. I thought he was bringing her to Charlie to get her to remember the Island, but that isn't what happened. It turns out that Illana is the attorney and when she hears Claire's name she says, "What a coincidence, we've been looking for you".

5. Sayid runs into Nadia's house and says that everything will be okay but he has to leave forever. Miles and James arrive and James captures Sayid.

6. Jack and his son, David, enter Illana's office for his father's will reading. Illana asks Jack if he believes in fate and then introduces them to Claire. They meet Claire and she tells Jack that his father is "my father too". Jack looks shocked and upset. He then gets an emergency call to go to the hospital.

7. Sun awakens in the hospital and asks Jin what happened. He tells her she is fine and so is the baby. Then he says, "Its over and we're ALL going to be okay". What did he mean they all? Could he have just meant him, her and the baby?

8. David goes with Jack to the hospital and their relationship seems much better than before. Jack scrubs into Locke's surgery and when he sees Locke's face he says "I think I know this guy". I am assuming that he recognizes him from their talk after flight 815 when they both had lost luggage. I have a feeling that Jack will not only keep Locke alive but he will fix his paralysis also.

On the Island

1. The Island part of the episode began exactly where Last week's "Everybody Loves Hugo" episode ended, with the two groups coming together. When Flocke sees Jack he says, "Hello Jack, I was hoping you'd come. I think we have some catching up to do". Even though Jack is not playing the role of leader anymore, Locke still chose Jack to speak to. Why?

2. Jack asks Flocke why he chose John Locke's body, Flocke replies, "Cause he was stupid enough to think he was brought here for a reason, because he pursued that belief until it got him killed and because you were nice enough to bring him back in a wooden box." Ironic that now Jack has those same beliefs that Locke did.

3. Finally, somebody asks a question that we all want to know. Jack asked Flocke, "Who else have you looked like?" We finally find out that Flocke was Jack's father on the Island. He said that he used Jack's father to lead them to water (season 1 episode, White Rabbit). This makes me think that Eloise is somehow working with Flocke/MIB because why else would she have had Jack bring his father's shoes to the Island? Then Flocke tells Jack, "All I've ever been interested in is helping you to leave, but because Jacob chose you, you were trapped on the Island." Is it possible that Flocke is actually good and really is trying to help Jack? And why must they all leave together? Flocke also said, "John Locke was not a believer, he was a sucker."

4. Claire approaches Jack and Locke and when Locke asks her why she followed them, she says, pointing to Jack, "Cause he's my brother". How did she find out? Was it Flocke? After Flocke leaves them alone, Claire tells Jack that she is glad he is going with them. Jack says that he still hasn't decided. Claire replies, "You decided the moment yu let him talk to you. So like it or not, your with him now". She knew what she was talking about.

5. When Sawyer tells Hurley the plan, Hurley asks why Sayid isn't included. Sawyer says because Sayid has gone over to the dark side.  Hurley says, "You can bring people back from the dark side, what about Anakin?" Another Star Wars reference (Anakin Skywalker) from Hurley. Sawyer didn't get it.

 6. Zoey appears and shows the group that they have the ability to blow them up. She tells Flocke that he has until nightfall to return what they took (Desmond). Flocke says, "Well here we go", realizing that everything is going to now escalate.

7. Flocke sends Sawyer to get his sailboat and Sawyer takes Kate. Before he leaves he tells Jack that they have to get away from Flocke and meet at the sailboat because he made a deal with Widmore.

8. Flocke tells Sayid to kill Desmond. When Sayid appears at the well and points his gun at Desmond, Desmond says, "So what did he offer you?" Sayid replies, "He told me I could get something back that I lost. The woman I loved". When Desmond asks where she is now, Sayid tells him that she is dead. Desmonds asks how he can be sure that Flocke can bring her back and Sayid says because Flocke brought him back. Then Desmond says, "So what will you tell this woman when she asks you what you did to be with her again?" Very smart. Even though Sayid later tells Locke that he killed Desmond, I don't think he did.

9. When Sawyer sees the boat he says "There she blows". He tells Kate his plan. When telling Kate who they are taking with them, when he gets to Frank he says, "That pilot looks like he stepped off the set of a Burt Reynolds movie".

10. When Jack asks Claire why she trusts Flocke, she says, "Because he's the only one that didn't abandon me". When Jack runs off with Sun, Hurley and Frank, Claire sees them (they are abandoning her again). When they arrive at the boat, Sawyer says, "Nice job Doc". Then Claire shows up pointing her gun. Kate convinces her to come along saying she can bring her to Aaron. Claire agrees but says, "When he finds out we're gone, he's going to be mad".

11. On the boat, while at sea, Sawyer and Jack talk. Sawyer says, "Taking orders ain't your strong suit. Nice to see you coming on board". However, Jack, sounding a lot like the old Locke says, "It doesn't feel right leaving the Island. We were brought here because we were supposed to do something. If Flocke wants us to leave, maybe he's scared of what will happen if we stay. The Island is not done with us yet". Sawyer tells him to leave, so Jack jumps off the boat and swims back to shore. Before he leaves he apologizes to Sawyer again for Juliet's death.

12. Flocke greets Jack when he arrives on shore with, "Nice day for a swim. Sawyer took my boat, didn't he?"

13. On Hydra Island, Sawyer's group walks to shore from the boat. Zoey's group comes out pointing guns at them. When Zoey recognizes Sawyer she tells everyone its okay and they drop their guns. Then, just as I hoped, Jin stepped out and him and Sun see each other. They can't believe it and run together. Its been 3 years and everyone is overwhelmed by their reunion. Sawyer even tears up. Sun can now speak English again. Jin tells Sun, "We'll never part again, I promise you". I hope he can keep that promise.

14. Zoey gets a call from Widmore and her group raises their guns again. She tells them "Deals off!"

15. Back on the main Island, there is an explosion right where Flocke's group is. Jack is thrown. Flocke picks him up and carries him away. He tells Jack, "Don't worry, its all going to be okay. Your with me now."

Questions
1. Did Sawyer's group make a mistake in leaving Flocke and trusting Widmore?
2. Does Flocke really want to help Jack?
3. Is Desmond alive?
4. When the explosion occurred we didn't see Sayid. Was he hurt or killed?
5. What is Widmore up to?

Next week, April 27th, ABC is showing a rerun of  Richard's Lost episode "Ab Aeterno" so we have to wait two weeks for the next episode. After that we have 3 new one-hour episodes left and then the two-hour finale. I really have absolutely no idea how Lost is going to end. Do any of you?

Good study skills are not easy to come by. Many teens do not know how to study effectively and need help with their homework, papers and projects. Parental help doesn't always work out because teens often see it as nagging and pestering. What can you do? Here are five websites that teens can use to help them with their school work:

1. Cramster - One of the leading providers of online homework help for college and high school students. There is a community of subject experts available 24/7 to help with any homework question and interactive solutions and hints for popular textbooks. Students can also try practice problems and get study tips. Help is available in math, science, engineering and business. There are both free and premium memberships available.

2. Course-Notes - Compiles and provides some of the best notes, outlines, practice tests, essays and study guides on the Internet. Help is available in a large variety of subjects by utilizing the above tools and through a forum of thousands if students helping each other.

3. Study Guides and Strategies - Hundreds of guides are available, not so much on subjects, but on how to study better. There are guides on time management, problem solving, learning, studying, classroom participation, thinking, memorizing, reading, research, project management, writing, vocabulary, test taking, math, science and technology, teaching and more.

When I was growing up, I asked my parents how they could smoke cigarettes knowing how much it could damage their health. They said that when they were teenagers and began smoking, nobody knew that tobacco was dangerous. What about teens today? They must know about the harm smoking can do to them. However, maybe they don't fully understand it. That is where the truth campaign comes in.

The truth campaign, the most successful youth smoking prevention campaign in the U.S., is celebrating its ten year anniversary in 2010. The campaign is run by and funded by Legacy, a national public health foundation, with the mission of keeping young people from smoking and helping all smokers quit. Truth is the only national  youth smoking prevention campaign that is not directed by the tobacco industry. Research has shown that the truth campaign increased anti-smoking beliefs among teens whereas the Philip Morris "Think, don't Smoke" campaign, for example, had virtually no effect on changing teens beliefs about smoking.

The truth campaign does not preach, they know it won't work. They set out to make 'anti-smoking' a brand. The facts are presented so that youth can make informed choices and communicate what they learn to each other. The campaign is designed to engage teens by exposing big tobacco's marketing and manufacturing practices and highlight the toll of tobacco in innovative ways.

Over the years, the truth campaign has had three distinct phases:
  1. Traditional advertising - television, print and radio ads.
  2. Online - the truth campaign built social networking profiles and continues to grow and build its website with polls, games, interactive activities, video, etc.
  3. Experiential - responding to an audience that is creating its own content and looking for engagement, the truth tour will take a more central role and the truth campaign will continue to embrace new methods of engagement such as with partnerships with brands such as MTV and Virgin Mobile.
What can parents do to help prevent their teens and tweens from smoking. Send them the link to the Truth website, especially the Facts Page. The website includes videos, games, free downloads and sharing. Parents might find the Legacy for Health website more their style. And don't forget that one of the best thing you can do for your teens is not to smoke yourself!

Two award-winning, best selling young adult novelists have collaborated to produce a new book, Will Grayson, Will Grayson. On the Amazon list of Best Books for the Month of April 2010, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, a YA novel about two very different teens with the same name, is garnering amazing reviews. It is written by David Levithan, author of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and John Green, author of Looking for Alaska.

From the publishers, "In the suburbs of Chicago, two teens named Will Grayson-one gay, one straight-have lived their lives completely unaware of the other's existence. But that changes on a fateful night when their worlds collide. Their lives begin to intertwine and each Will Grayson begins to question who he really is. Their discoveries take them in unexpected directions, building towards romantic turn-of-heart and the epic production of an 0h-so-fabulous high school musical".

The chapters alternate between each Will Grayson's point of view, which is made even more interesting by having Green writing one Will Grayson and Levithan writing the other. You can see the difference in their voices. However, a third character, Tiny Cooper, is actually the most interesting character. He is the one that connects the two Wills and stages the high school musical.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a smart, funny story that really is about love. This is not a book for younger teens or tweens and is meant for ages 15 and up, due to frank sexual language. Adults will enjoy this book as much as older teens will. To help you connect and discuss this book with your teens, Penguin publishing has written a list of discussion questions. You can also find an excerpt from Will Grayson,Will Grayson on Penguin's website. If you are a fan of these authors, or just curious about how this collaboration between David Levithan and John Green came together, read Publisher Weekly's article Double Identity. Based on the track record of these authors, I have a feeling that Will Grayson, Will Grayson will become another best-seller, award-winning YA novel.

Everybody Loves Hugo was not one of my favorite episodes of the final season of Lost. By itself this episode was very good, but after the amazing episodes we have seen recently, especially Desmond's Happily Ever After, Hurley's episode almost seemed like a disappointment. It did get better as it went on, I loved seeing Libby and the beach scene was one of my favorite scenes, ever.

Here are my quotes and notes from Season 6, episode 12, Everybody Loves Hugo:

1. The title of this episode Lost, Everybody Loves Hugo, is of course a play on the title of the season 2 episode, Everybody Hates Hugo. This juxtaposition represents the different lives the Oceanic 815 survivors are living in the alternate world.

2. As compared to all the other survivor's, even Sawyer, Hurley's life was the most radically different in the flash sideways. He was no longer unlucky and was beloved by all. Except, he still didn't have a woman to love. So he got his wish of not being cursed, but like all the others, something was still missing in his life.

3. The master of ceremonies at Hurley's Man of the Year ceremony was none other than Pierre Chang. We already knew he worked at a museum and Hurley was being honored for donating money for a new paleontology wing at this museum.

4. While Hurley was at Libby's grave, Illana asked him whose it was. Hurley said, "Libby. We were going to go on our first date but then she was murdered".

4. Michael appeared to Hurley on the Island to tell him to stop his group from blowing up the plane. He said, "I'm here to stop you from getting everyone killed." When Hurley asked how he could do this, Michael said, "People are listening to you now, Hurley".

5. Hurley tried to talk Illana out of her plan. While holding the bag of dynamite she said, "I've been training my whole life for this" then dropped the bag to the ground and it exploded and killed her, reminiscent of Dr. Artz.

6. Libby recognized Hurley. She had the same glimpses of memory that Charlie did when he saw Claire on the plane. This recognition seems to come to some easier than to others. Maybe it is the people that died on the island that have the easier time remembering.

7. Libby is now at the Santa Rosa mental hospital. This is the same hospital that she was previously a patient at the same time as Hurley. But now Hurley has never been there, and it seems that Libby is only there because of her weird Island memories.

8. Desmond seemed very odd during this episode, just as he was at the very end of the last one. Did the electromagnetism do this to him, or is he so calm because he saw his alternate life? It can't be that he was taken by Smokey like Sayid and Claire, because if so, Locke would not have thrown him down the well. When Desmond says "I have no where to run, brotha", Locke unties him. Right before he throws Desmond in the well, he even asks Desmond why he isn't afraid. Desmond says, "What's the point of being afraid?" Before this happened, Desmond and Locke saw the boy in the woods that seems to spook Locke. He appeared older than he did origianlly.

9. Hurley asks Jack to trust him. It was always Jack asking everyone to trust him when he was in charge.

10. While Hurley is depressed from his initial meeting with Libby, Desmond approaches him after he ascertains that Hurley was on flight 815 and hears about what happened with Libby, says, "Did you believe her when she said she knew you? You should try to find out where she knew you from before you give up on her."

11. Ben, talking about what happened to Illana says to the group, "It kind of makes you think. No sooner does she tell you who you are when she blows up. The Island was done with her. Makes me wonder whats going to happen to us when its done with us."

12. To stop the plan of blowing up the plane, Hurley blows up the Black Rock. Richard is furious and says "Why the hell did you do that?". Hurley replies, "I'm protecting you. Michael told me to stop everyone from blowing up the plane." Miles asked Hurley, "Does that happen a lot, dead people yelling at you?" to which Hurley replies, "Dead people are more reliable than live people".

13. Hurley tells the group that they must go and speak to Locke. Richard, Ben and Miles decide not to and leave. Jack, Sun and Frank agree to go with Hurley.

14. Off the Island, Hurley goes to see Libby at Santa Rosa. (There was a picture of the Island on the doctor's wall). She tells him that "memories of another life came rushing back to me, a plane crash, and Island and when I got here (to Santa Rosa) I felt like I was here before. I have a memory of you being here too." Hurley says, "It takes a lot of guts to tell someone that you are from some Bizarro Alternate Universe". He asks her out.

15. Hurley gets Libby out of Santa Rosa with a bribe and takes her to the beach for a picnic (the exact same date they were supposed to have on the Island). Libby even says, "being here is like a date we never had". They kiss and all the memories come rushing back to Hurley. Hurley tells Libby, "I think I'm remembering stuff" and she happily replies, "You mean I'm not crazy". This was one of my favorite scenes. During the kiss and the flashbacks, I got goosebumps. Desmond was watching them from his car and seemed to be thinking, One Down.

16. While walking to meet Locke's group, Hurley's group hears the whispers. Hurley has a realization and finds Michael. Michael confirms that the whispers are the people that died on the Island that can't move on. Big reveal. But then does that mean that when Hurley sees these dead people it really is them and not the Man in Black manipulating him? Michael also tells Hurley, "If you ever see Libby again, tell her I'm very sorry!"

17. Sun still isn't speaking English so she writes a note to Frank saying "Did we make a mistake?" (about following Hurley). When Hurley tells Jack he is having second thoughts, Jack told him that since Juliet died, he gave up being a leader. "It is very hard to have other people tell me what to do, but maybe I'm supposed to let go". Jack is really changing.

18. Locke tells Sawyer and Kate that that to leave the Island they need all of the Oceanic 6 together. When Hurley, Sun, Jack and Frank arrive, Sawyer says his trademark line, "Sonofabitch".

19. Off the Island, Desmond is sitting in a car outside of the school where Ben and Locke work. Ben comes over and asks him what he is doing and he says that he is looking for a school for his son Charlie. Desmond doesn't have a son in this timeline, but he remembers, from his flashbacks, Penny giving birth to Charlie. When Ben walks away, Desmond sees Locke in his wheelchair and runs him down in the car! Why? Could it be that he knows that Locke had to die for them all to get back to the Island in the other timeline? What do you think?

I have no idea which Lost character is being featured next week but I can't wait for this episode, titled The Last Recruit. With only 6 hours of Lost left, every minute counts in this final season.

Earth Day is being celebrated on April 22, 2010 this year. The celebration of Earth Day began in 1970 with the goal of inspiring awareness and an appreciation of the environment. Teens and tweens are no doubt learning about Earth Day at school and might even be assigned projects to do. If you are the parent of a teen and tween, get involved with them. Ask them if they are learning about Earth Day, discuss it and collaborate. It will make the day much more meaningful for all involved.

Since Earth day, the environment and being green are not part of my expertise, here are links to websites that will be helpful for Earth Day ideas and discussion:

1. Earth Day Network - Learn more about the core issues involved in Earth day, how to take action, and events all over the world.

2. Teens for Planet Earth - Although this social networking site for teens is not specifically about Earth Day, the entire site discusses actions and projects teens can take to go green all year round.

3. Green Education Foundation (GEF): Fostering The Next Generation Of Environmental Stewards - GEF is partnering with the Earth Day Network to launch the Gardens for Earth day global event. If your school or youth group is not part this Green Thumb Challenge, there are suggestions for many activities your family can do on its own in the Garden Activity Center.

4. Yahoo! Events: Earth Day 2010 - Your family can test its Earth Day knowledge and learn about global warming myths and facts. Also, learn what not to do for Earth Day.

5. Yahoo! Green - Learn about living green and get tools to help you do so.

Show your teens that you care about the environment. Make it a family project to try living green. If you haven't been doing this already, make April 22, 2010, Earth Day, the day to kick off your family's commitment to helping planet Earth.

If you are like many parents lately, there is a fairly good chance you have already joined Facebook. Your teens or tweens may or may not have friended you on it, but you feel confident that you know what you should about this social networking site that your child spends so much time on. I know that I thought I did. Was I surprised to see how much I didn't know about how Facebook works when I read The Facebook Guide for Parents.

Most teens don't think very much about privacy settings and other problems that can arise when using Facebook. We can't help them without thoroughly understanding it ourselves. The Facebook Guide for Parents is a step-by-step instruction manual to help parents set up their Facebook profiles quickly and easily as well as learn to protect their children’s online experience. The guide is accompanied by 12 short (5 minutes or less) tutorial videos to visually guide parents through the set up, privacy settings, and give them an understanding of the language and the etiquette of Facebook.

Important thing that you need to know about Facebook include:
  • Mistakes a child makes in setting up privacy settings can expose his profile to the entire internet.
  • The privacy settings of your teen’s friends can also make your teen’s pictures and information available to the world.
  • If your kids friend you, Facebook can be an illuminating look into their social interactions and can be a wonderful starting place for important conversations.
  • You can play games on Facebook and these games can provide a wonderful way to interact with your younger teen during a time when they might be less talkative at the dinner table.
Lets face it, parents today grew up in a much different world and we must learn how to help our kids live safely in the 21st century. The Facebook Guide for Parents, created by Supreme Social Media, is a thorough, yet highly readable guide to everything you need to know. I was amazed at how much I learned. On Tuesday, April 12, 2010, if you are interested, there is a live webinar, Facebook is your Children's Online Playground...Are You Watching? in which the Supreme Social Media team will be interviewed on their book.

The official launch date of this product is Friday, April 16th. Special prices are being offered if you purchase it by Thursday, April 15th. If you want to learn more about this wonderful resource, just go the The Facebook guide for Parents website.

Last night, April 10, 2009, Tina Fey hosted Saturday Night Live with Justin Bieber as both the musical guest and co-host. A perfect pair for parents and tweens to both enjoy. Ever since her Sarah Palin impersonations, Tina Fey has become one of the hottest and funniest stars today. Justin Bieber is by far the biggest tween idol right now.

If you missed Saturday Night Live last night, here are 2 videos featuring both Tina Fey and Justin Bieber. If you saw it and enjoyed it, have fun watching again.

Although this probably won't be the most watched series finale ever, I would bet that the Lost finale, airing Sunday, May 23rd, will be the most discussed and anticipated. Ever since team Darlton announced an ending date for Lost, the suspense has been palpable. And now Lost fans won't have to say goodbye so quickly. They can watch Lost related television for 5 hours in a row on finale night.

First up, a two hour recap show. Hopefully it will have the little pop-up explanations, as they are the best part of all Lost recaps and repeats. This will run from 7pm -9pm. Looks like ABC decided to take advantage of the extra hour of prime time on Sunday nights.

Then, the Lost finale itself, is two hours long, from 9pm - 11pm. Now after this ends, most Lost fans will probably run to their computer to talk, write and read all about what the finale means. However, you might want to stay on ABC another hour for the Jimmy Kimmel Lost Special running from 11pm - midnight on 5/23. I am sure it will be worth looking up from the computer as many special Lost guests are promised.

The night of the Lost finale should be exciting and amazing, but also bittersweet. We will finally get our answers (hopefully) but we will never have a new episode to watch again. No other show can ever take the place of Lost, because it was the first of its kind. It is unique, wonderful, provocative and exhilarating. I hate to see it go.

Update: An extra 1/2 hour has been added to the actual finale, which will now run from 9 - 11:30

I haven't found season 9 of American Idol to be one of its best seasons, but it also isn't the worst. I think Crystal Bowersox is amazing and far better than everyone other contestant. However, we all know that on American Idol, the best contestant does not always win. That is why the finale is always so exciting. Would you like to attend the finale along with a free flight to Los Angeles and free hotel room? I thought so.

Coca-Cola, with the help of Jet Blue, is offering a sweepstakes to win this trip to the American Idol finale. This contest is extremely easy to enter. Just fill out this short questionnaire, that only asks for your name, address and phone number. Simple.

The grand prize is:
  • Roundtrip flights to Los Angeles for 2 on JetBlue
  • Two night free hotel
  • Two tickets to the American Idol Finale - both shows, May 25th and 26th
If you don't win the grand prize, there are also two first place prizes of $500 Simon Mall gift cards. Also, three winners will receive the second place prizes of Coca Cola Prize Packs, which include a folding chair autographed by Ryan Seacrest.

So, fill out the form and enter the Sweepstakes for the American Idol finale. It is so easy you have nothing to lose. But the contest closes on April 30, 2010 so don't delay. You must be at least 18 to enter. Good luck and let me know if you are the winner of the American Idol Sweepstakes.

I think that "Happily Ever After" is my new favorite episode from Lost, season 6. Desmond episodes have always been fan favorites, with The Constant" always named as one of the best Lost episodes. However, I loved this episode not only because it was about Desmond, but the pieces are beginning to fall into place. The two timelines are now making sense and are coming together. As we've suspected all along, Desmond is special and important to the Lost story.

1. Widmore kidnapped Desmond from the hospital after he was shot by Ben in season 5 episode Jughead. Was that the last time we saw Desmond in the original timeline? I can't believe its been so long.

2. Widmore says to Desmond, "I can't take you back, the Island isn't done with you yet". We've heard that phrase many times throughout Lost.

3. There is a rabbit in a cage in the generator room. Have we seen a rabbit in every episode this season? This rabbit's name is Angstrom, from the John Updike Rabbit, Run novels.

4. Widmore tells Desmond, "My son died here for the sake of this Island, your wife, my own daughter hates me and I've never seen my grandson. But if you won't help me Desmond, all of it will be for nothing. Penny, your son, and everyone will be gone forever." in response to Desmond telling Widmore that he doesn't know what sacrifice is.

5. Widmore to Jin about Desmond, "That man is the only one I am aware of in the world that has survived a catastrophic, electromagnetic event, I need to know that he can do it again." The event in question was when Desmond turned the key in the Hatch and it exploded in Live Together, Die Alone, the season 2 finale.

6. In the flash sideways, after coming off flight 815, Hurley tells Desmond the bags are on carousel 4 (one of the numbers). He then meets Claire and predicts that she will have a boy.

7. Desmond's chauffeur is George Minkowski, from the freighter in The Constant.

7. Major flash sideways difference, Desmond works for Widmore and they have a great relationship. However, Desmond doesn't even know Penny and he is single and has never been in love.

8. Daniel is now a talented musician and his parents, Charles and Eloise, are married. Daniel wants Driveshaft to play at his mother's charity benefit.

9. Widmore shares a drink of his 60 year old bottle of MacCutcheon whiskey with Desmond, the same whiskey he refused to share with him in season 3, Flashes Before Your Eyes.

9. Desmond  picks up Charlie from jail after Widmore bailed him out. While crossing the street, Charlie walks in front of many cars but isn't hit. I thought Desmond would have to rescue him, but it looks like in this timeline Charlie is not meant to die.

10. In the bar, Desmond tells Charlie, "You always have a choice brother".

11. Charlie tells Desmond that when he saw a beautiful blond (Claire) on the plane he instantly fell in love. When he was about to die on the plane, he saw what this great real love looked like.

12. We hear the Driveshaft song "You all everybody" on Desmond's car radio.

13. Charlie take the wheel of the car that he and Desmond are in drives them into the water. Desmond gets out and tries to rescue Charlie. He sees flashes of the scene from Through the Looking Glass when Charlie died in the underground hatch. He sees the words "Not Pennys Boat" written on Charlie's hand. When the nurse at the hospital asks Desmond if he had any hallucinations he isn't sure.

14. In the ct scan Desmond sees flashes of his other life with Penny and his baby. He then runs into Jack in the hospital. When Desmond tells Charlie about seeing the word Penny, Charlie tells him he has to find her. He also says, "None of this is real".

15. Widmore sends Desmond to Eloise to tell her about losing Driveshaft for her concert. When Desmond apologies to her, she is very nice and says, "What happened, happened". However, when she sees Desmond trying to see the list with Penny's name on it, she gets angry. She tells him, "It is a violation, whatever you think you are looking for, you need to stop looking for it, you have attained what you most wanted, my husband's approval". When Desmond asks how she knows what he wants, she says "Because I bloody do, You are not ready yet Desmond". She seems to be fully aware of what past events and the Island.

16. Desmond meets Daniel, but his name is now Daniel Widmore, not Farady, since his parents are married.

17. Daniel has figured out what happened and it now confirms what many of us have suspected, The flash sideways is what happened after they detonated the bomb and destroyed the island and their lives were reset. He says to Desmond, "Do you believe in love at first sight?" The second time he has heard that this day. He talks about seeing a woman (Charlotte) in a museum (we learned she worked there in Recon), eating a chocolate bar (which we know she loves from This Place is Death in season 5).

18. Later that night Daniel, who is a musician, wrote a quantum mechanics equations that his friend at Cal Tech told him is so advanced that only a someone that studied physics their whole life could have written. He says, "what if something so catastrophic was about to happen that only a nuclear bomb could prevent it. What if this wasn't supposed to be our life? What if we had some other life and for some reason we changed things?" Somebody finally figured it out. We are now putting it all together. He then tells Desmond that Penny is his half sister and he can tell him where to find her. In this reality, Daniel knows about Penny.

19. Desmond goes to the same stadium where we saw him meet Jack in Man of Science, Man of Faith. Penny is running up and down the steps just as Desmond did back in season 2. Desmond looks completely in love.

20. Desmond wakes up again on the Island and tells Widmore he completely understands. He remembers what Daniel told him. He is so far the only one that can remember both timelines.

21. Sayid appears and shoots some of Widmore's people and tells Zoe to run. He tells Desmond to come with him and he does. How will this effect Widmore's plan. I think Desmond only went with him out of fear, because Sayid looked crazy. He really does want to help Widmore with his plan.

22. Back at the bleachers, Desmond wakes up from fainting and makes plans to meet Penny for coffee (I'm still hoping to see Sawyer and Juliet meet for coffee). He then tells George back in the car that he wants the manifest from flight 815. He believes Daniel and wants to tell the rest of the passengers. This should get good as the two timelines will now really come together.

I am so looking forward to next week's Hurley centric episode. As much as I loved this Desmond centric episode of Lost, Happily Ever After, we didn't get to see many of the Lost characters. Hopefully, they will all come together soon.
