Two award-winning, best selling young adult novelists have collaborated to produce a new book, Will Grayson, Will Grayson. On the Amazon list of Best Books for the Month of April 2010
, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, a YA novel about two very different teens with the same name, is garnering amazing reviews. It is written by David Levithan, author of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and John Green, author of Looking for Alaska.
From the publishers, "In the suburbs of Chicago, two teens named Will Grayson-one gay, one straight-have lived their lives completely unaware of the other's existence. But that changes on a fateful night when their worlds collide. Their lives begin to intertwine and each Will Grayson begins to question who he really is. Their discoveries take them in unexpected directions, building towards romantic turn-of-heart and the epic production of an 0h-so-fabulous high school musical".
The chapters alternate between each Will Grayson's point of view, which is made even more interesting by having Green writing one Will Grayson and Levithan writing the other. You can see the difference in their voices. However, a third character, Tiny Cooper, is actually the most interesting character. He is the one that connects the two Wills and stages the high school musical.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a smart, funny story that really is about love. This is not a book for younger teens or tweens and is meant for ages 15 and up, due to frank sexual language. Adults will enjoy this book as much as older teens will. To help you connect and discuss this book with your teens, Penguin publishing has written a list of discussion questions. You can also find an excerpt from Will Grayson,Will Grayson on Penguin's website. If you are a fan of these authors, or just curious about how this collaboration between David Levithan and John Green came together, read Publisher Weekly's article Double Identity. Based on the track record of these authors, I have a feeling that Will Grayson, Will Grayson will become another best-seller, award-winning YA novel.
