Earth Day is being celebrated on April 22, 2010 this year. The celebration of Earth Day began in 1970 with the goal of inspiring awareness and an appreciation of the environment. Teens and tweens are no doubt learning about Earth Day at school and might even be assigned projects to do. If you are the parent of a teen and tween, get involved with them. Ask them if they are learning about Earth Day, discuss it and collaborate. It will make the day much more meaningful for all involved.

Since Earth day, the environment and being green are not part of my expertise, here are links to websites that will be helpful for Earth Day ideas and discussion:

1. Earth Day Network - Learn more about the core issues involved in Earth day, how to take action, and events all over the world.

2. Teens for Planet Earth - Although this social networking site for teens is not specifically about Earth Day, the entire site discusses actions and projects teens can take to go green all year round.

3. Green Education Foundation (GEF): Fostering The Next Generation Of Environmental Stewards - GEF is partnering with the Earth Day Network to launch the Gardens for Earth day global event. If your school or youth group is not part this Green Thumb Challenge, there are suggestions for many activities your family can do on its own in the Garden Activity Center.

4. Yahoo! Events: Earth Day 2010 - Your family can test its Earth Day knowledge and learn about global warming myths and facts. Also, learn what not to do for Earth Day.

5. Yahoo! Green - Learn about living green and get tools to help you do so.

Show your teens that you care about the environment. Make it a family project to try living green. If you haven't been doing this already, make April 22, 2010, Earth Day, the day to kick off your family's commitment to helping planet Earth.
