1. GirlMogul Magazine - Encouraging Self Esteem in Girls. "The GirlMogulMagazine blog is intended as a place for tween girls (ages 6-13) to read, enjoy and learn about all things girl power."
2. All Girl Arcade - a fun social game website for tweens and younger teen girls. The girls play games, make friends, watch videos and can decorate their page with virtual goods that they buy with with virtual game winnings. (Warning: This website plays music when you open it, so you might want to turn off your volume before you check it out).
Not all websites are for all people. But if you or your daughters or other teen girls that you know find even one new website today that you enjoy, I'll be happy.

As a mom of 2 grown daughters now, I think it's important that girls have healthy, creative online outlets, especially when recommended by parents.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. It's good to know that there are positive sites for young girls that are not strictly about fashion, dieting, and boys.

I'm going to see if my niece knows about these.
ReplyDeleteI was browsing the internet looking for information on what parents care about in a site for their teen/tween children and I came across this blog.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, 2 of your links aren't working (Fortune Girls, Girl Ambition).
I'd love if you'd review SmartGirl.org, which is the site I run. We're dedicated to girls aged 11-19 and provide a space for them to share their opinions, experiences, and creativity. Most of the content is submitted by girls, and all of it is anonymous and moderated.
Megan, thanks for pointing out the bad links. I removed Fortune Girls because it looks like it no longer exists. For Girl Ambition, it looks like it might just be temporarily down, so I left it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information about SmartGirl. I will definitely give it a look.
