Back in January, I wrote about 14 Movies for Teens coming out in 2009. One of them, Adventureland, is opening today, April 3rd. What I didn't expect was the amazing reviews that Adventureland has been receiving. I also didn't realize that this movie would be one that adults could relate to and enjoy also.

From Rotten Tomatoes:
"Full of humor and nostalgia, Adventureland is a sweet, insightful coming-of-age comedy that will resonate with teens and adults alike."
Adventureland is a comedy about Jesse, a recent college graduate, who takes a job at a local amusement park when his parents won't pay for a trip to Europe. Jesse's co-worker/love interest is played by Kristen Stewart (Bella from Twilight). Other cast members include Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Martin Starr.

The reviews of Adventureland have been overwhelmingly good. From John Anderson of Newsday:
"Adventureland may be targeted at teens, but it's a sophisticated film that just happens to be about unformed people and their raw emotions."
And from Scott Foundas of the Village Voice:
"I've seen Mottola's movie twice, and both times, it has inspired feelings of joy, sadness, and a profound yearning for the unrecoverable past."

Directed by Jesse Eisenberg (Superbad), it is based on his real life experiences working at Adventureland Amusement Park on Long Island. I grew up on Long Island and spent many fun nights at there as a teenager with my friends. After I had children and moved back to Long Island, my husband and I took my kids to Adventureland very often. Although this movie was actually filmed in Pittsburgh, my husband and I and my sons who are now college age, are all excited to see Adventureland the movie.

I grew up in Long Island also, and spent nights at adventure land in my teenage years. Remember they use to have 'bands' there also? I really could be dating myself. Oh the 70's.

I do want to see this although I'm a bit concerned it will be too much like his earlier movie Superbad.
