Teen Ink is a national teen magazine and website devoted entirely to teenage writing and art. There is an actual print magazine version of Teen Ink that is published monthly and distributed in schools nationwide. Everything published in the magazine has been submitted by teenagers.
The best thing about the Teen Ink website is that it isn't just an online version of the magazine. It is much, much more. It is a complete website for teens to interact and learn. Some of the many fantastic features include:
1. Bulletin Board - This is a wonderful forum for teens to discuss topics such as writing, contests, book of the month, arts & entertainment, dating and friendship, family, school, news, poetry and more.
2. Blogs - An entire section of Teen Ink is devoted to blogs written by teens on topics such as fashion, fiction/poetry, books, college, music, global issues, politics, movies, sports, technology and more. Commenting on each others blogs makes this another form of social interaction.
3. Contests - Teens submit essays, photos, etc. on a particular assigned topic for a chance to win something. Recent contests include a Twilight movie review contest, win the chance to interview a celebrity contest and a poetry contest.
4. Resources - Teen Ink provides a multitude of links on a large variety of subjects such as writing, art, college, publishing, community service, environment, libraries, careers and authors.
5. Summer Programs - A list with descriptions of some of the coolest summer programs for teens.
And of course, on the Teen Ink website, you will be able to read and look at, all of the teen submitted writings and art work. The writings consist of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and opinions. The news website for teens, beRed, that I wrote about a few months ago, is linked to from the Teen Ink homepage. There is also a page of teacher information. I can't think of a better website for creative teens than Teen Ink.
