Christina Tynan-Wood understands the difference between how women and men think about technology. That is why this author of hundreds of articles on technology, parenting and education decided to write the book How to be a Geek Goddess: Practical Advice to using computers with smarts and style. Women use technology to get things done and want practical advice, yet how often do you hear men discussing acronyms and the size of their hard drive.

I didn't think that I could learn anything from How to be a Geek Goddess because I am already Internet Savvy. However, this book contains advice on so many other areas that I am not as well versed in, such as how to set up a wi-fi network in your home and purchase all types of gadgets large and small.

The contents of the book contain:

1. Get a smooth ride new or used - buying a new computer or rejuvenating your old one

2. Housebreaking - Setting up your computer

3. Getting in touch with your software side - Software that you'll want or need, both free and for purchase

4. Hook it up - Broadband vs. Dialup, email, homepage and RSS feeds

5. Where the stores never close - Shopping online

6. Hello, Operator - Free Internet phone service, VoIP

7. The Wireless Home - Getting and setting up Wifi, protection, file sharing

8. Keeping it Safe - Viruses, spyware, etc. and scams

9. Geek Parenting - Dangers, safety gates and web filters

10. Groovy Gear and Gadgets - Cameras, Video cameras, PDAs, Music and Media Players, TV and more

11. Your 200 closest friends - Social Networking, blogs, twitter

12. The Sexy Geek - Hooking up and staying connected

One of the funniest parts of the How to be a Geek Goddess is the "note for men", at the beginning, written by the author's husband. Christina Tynan-Wood also writes a blog called Geek Girlfriends which she uses to keep updating women as technology changes. She takes questions and offers an email newsletter. What a great extension of her wonderful book How to be a Geek Goddess.
