Halloween is only a few days away but I am sure there are many people still looking for costumes. With the Presidential election just a few days later, we might be seeing more than a few Sarah Palins at Halloween parties this year. If you are creative, you can make quite a splash dressing as a pop culture personality or character. When my son was in high school, he attended a Halloween party dressed as Alex from A Clockwork Orange. All he needed to buy was a bowler hat and did the rest himself. He looked great.
If you or your teens are wondering what is hot in popular culture costumes this year, The New York Times, in its Sunday Pulse section, recommend four hot costumes dressing as people in the entertainment world:
- Joe Jonas - The Jonas Brothers
- Amy Winehouse - Singer
- Joan Holloway - Character of office manager in Mad Men
- Alice Cullen - Character of a vampire in Twilight book and movie
For pictures of the rather expensive costumes the NYT put together, take a look at this slideshow. These ideas can easily be put together for much less money.
For more ideas, BuddyTV has their own article on TV Halloween Costume Ideas. They have a list of 10 ideas, all related to television. Three that interested me the most were:
- Number 6 from Battlestar Galactica - All you need is a short blond wig, a sexy red dress and a great body. Easy, right.
- The Smoke Monster from Lost - Huh? Talk about thinking outside the box. Black sheets, powder, tape with noise. Sounds difficult.
- Jamie Lynn Spears - Put a pillow in your shirt to create a baby bump and hold a baby at the same time. In the year of the teen pregnancy, this is probably the best costume.

One of my friends went to a costume party as The Joker. She looked awesome! I was tempted to do Sarah Palin, but she is way hotter than me.
Even Tina Fey has said that she doesn't want to appear next to Sarah Palin of her looks.
