About a month ago I wrote a post titled I miss Harry Potter in which I wondered if there would ever be another series like it. A mother named Stephanie Meyer is taking on that challenge. She has already published three books of a vampire series with an eagerly awaited fourth book due out this August. And the first book is already being adapted into a movie. The names of the first three books are Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse but the series is known as the Twilight series
.
The genre of these novels is considered fantasy/romance/horror. Although considered young adult, they are big fat books just like the Harry Potter books were. I haven't read any yet, but from what I've read about them, and from skimming the first one, they remind me of a slightly younger version of the Anne Rice vampire chronicles
. If they are even half as good as Lestat
and Harry Potter
I am going to give the first one a try. The reviews have been spectacular. In fact the author, Stephenie Meyer, made the list of 100 most influential people in the world in this week's Time magazine.
The only thing that I can see keeping this series from reaching Harry Potter proportions and from preventing this from creating the full family bonding experience is that so far the market for this book seems to be girls. That probably is due to the romance part of the book. Everything I hear about the book talks about the legions of female fans. Maybe it will eventually catch on with everybody, and even if not it can still be a great mom and daughter bonding book, but it won't be another Harry Potter.

YEEEY! i’m soooo looking forward for the day that twilight wiil be on the big screen..geeez, i’ve read all of twilight’s saga books and they’re AWESOME!
Hello Jennifer, I was glad to have stumbled upon your website, which I have now added to myYahoo. As a mother and aunt of teenagers, I, too, do my best to keep up with what is popular in their world, as well as what is so very unpopular.
I thought you might be interested in a comment I posted on SizzlingPopcorn.com today. I've copied it to this post. I do hope you will visit the site I've listed in the post to see for yourself what Kristen Stewart, Bella Swan's character in Twilight, was photographed doing.
POST:I was thrilled to read the comment posted by Jean Brunet, December 17, 2008, that Taylor Lautner will remain as Jacob in New Moon. While he was not given a lot of scenes in Twilight, he proved himself quite capable in the ones he was.
As for choosing the part for Bella, Kristen Stewart would not have been my choice; as everyone else, I, too, am entitled to my opinion. In the interviews I’ve seen with her she comes off as being a brat, and a little snotty. It also seemed she couldn’t be still. Now I understand why!! A friend of mine called and told me to check out some photos of Kristen Stewart that her teenagers saw on TMZ.com. When I saw the pictuers of her on TMZ.com - (in the search box type in Another Twilight Stars Pipe Dream) it only solidified my feelings about her. What these actors do in private IS their business, however, when they are blatant with their vices in public it's a whole new ballgame. There are millions of Twilight fans whom I hope see what this arrogant girl does. I certainly hope Stephenie Meyer does. I really hope that the powers that be replaces Kristen Stewart. I’m very glad I read all of the books with my kids, which I think are awesome. I, my teens, many friends, and their teens, as well, definitely won’t be going to see Kristen Stewart ‘light-up’ the silver screen in the Twilight sequels.
This is what Kristen Stewart said while being interviewed recently, I believe it was for the Twilight layout InStyle did. . . “The series has this huge fan base,” Stewart has said. “And they have very specific expectations.”
Too bad she wasn’t betting on the expectation of being photographed smoking a crack pipe with a friend in plain view, even the dog in the pictures looks stoned!
As a fan of the Twilight series, I am saddened and so disappointed. I think it’s a definite black mark for Stephenie Meyer and Summit should she remain as Bella. The books are always better anyway.
Thanks for this great information. I've also heard that Kristen Stewart makes not effort to engage in conversation when she is interviewed on talk shows. That says she is selfish and doesn't care about fans or viewers.
